Dan Mazzotti was born in Ravenna, Italy in 1925. His desire to create became obvious in early life and led to his enrolment in the Ravenna Academy of Fine Art.

His studies included painting, sculpture, mosaics, art history and critical aesthetics.

During this period he experimented with many styles of self-expression, working towards formalising what has become his own particular standard of elegance.

In the early 1950's Mazzotti worked on restoration of Byzantine mosaics in his hometown- copies of those mosaics were later sent by the Italian government on a nation-wide tour during Australia's Bicentenary celebrations.

Dan migrated to Australia in 1952 and initially worked under contract to the Australian Government. In 1954 having fulfilled his contractual obligations, he travelled to Geraldton and was involved in freelance art activities. Various hotel decorations and the frescoed ceiling of the Geraldton Catholic Cemetery Chapel were some of his artworks.

In 1960 he became an illustrator in a graphics art studio, where he worked for the next nine years.

His activities as an art teacher, which has led to sharing his knowledge and helping to develop the talents of many enthusiastic students of all ages, began in 1968.

Between 1968 and 1972, Dan taught painting and sculpture at Adult Education classes for the University of Western Australia's Extension schools in Perth, Kununurra and other centres. he also taught painting at night classes at Forrestfield Technical School, between 1981 and 1988.

Dan Mazzotti was Art Master at Aquinas College for 22 years until his retirement in 1991. Many of his paintings, sculptures and a mosaic today adorn the Aquinas College grounds. In his retirement Dan is devoting his time to continuing his passion for painting and sculpturing at his home studio in Western Australia.

Over the years he has developed a recognisable, individualistic style, noted for its outright visual pleasure, technical competence and integrity. His work is represented in churches and private collections in Australia, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan and the USA.

In 1999 the Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery's newest acquisition from Dan Mazzotti was a glass mosaic panel which took 152 hours to be made by hand with material imported from Venice. It will be featured with a water fountain on the outside presentation wall of the Gallery.
